Mmmmm

My Grandma and Grandpa in 1983

Mmmm...Funnel Cake

My Grandma handed a recipe book down to me shortly before she passed away in 1997. I love to look at the cookbook and all of the handwritten notes that my Grandma made about the recipes. "Great Recipe!!" or "Didn't like this one." In my earlier post I referred to something special that we did while Grammy was here. We used a recipe that we found in the cookbook and made funnel cake. It turned out very well despite the fact that I didn't have much oil (a kind neighbor provided some) and I didn't have any powdered sugar- a must for funnel cakes (we used regular sugar and cinnamon). The girls loved them. If you come and visit, we just might make you some.

Busy, Busy Weekend

Early last week I got a phone call from my mom telling me that there was a cheap fare direct from Allentown to Atlanta over the Labor Day Weekend and so my mom came to visit.  She got in Saturday evening and it was a go, go, weekend from there.

After we picked her up on Saturday evening we went to the 25th Anniversary Laser Show at Stone Mountain and it was spectacular.  In addition to the lasers, they added fireworks this year and at times it seemed as if they were coming directly at you.  Very Cool!

Sunday we swam in the pool for a bit in the morning and then headed downtown to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.  The girls enjoyed the walk around "Sweet Auburn" Street and the movie about MLK's life.  We finished off the day at Mary Mac's Tearoom which was rumored to be some of the best Southern cooking in Atlanta.  You'll have to ask Grammy what she thought of it!!!

Today the girls and I took Grammy down to the Atlanta Botanical Garden where the two younger girls enjoyed playing in the kid's fountain (Destiny is way too cool for that sort of thing anymore).  We all enjoyed walking around and seeing the beautiful plants and flowers.  Definitely a must see if you are in the Atlanta area.  Tonight we chilled out here at home, cooked on the grill, did some laundry and did something special that we will discuss at a later time.

Tomorrow morning I will be leaving at 6:15 a.m. to get Grammy to her flight at Hartsfield-Jackson.  The visit was all too short and we hope that she does it again soon!!
